Jewellery Design Book - Basics Fashion Design: Jewellery Design

I recently entered a competition to win a book called 'Basics Fashion Design: Jewellery Design' by Elizabeth Galton from Making Jewellery magazine and I WON! It arrived a couple of days ago and I've already finished reading it! This wouldn't be the sort of thing I'd normally pick up to read, out of a fear it's going to try to make me draw and be really formal about my design process. The ring on the cover is awesome though so I entered the competition any way. And who doesn't like a free book?

It is an informative, well written book with some insightful interviews with various designers, both big brand names and independents. The thing I liked best about it was the varied points of view, there's really blingy jewels, classic styles, fashion and quirky jewellery. I also loved that you got taken through the entire thought process of design, looking at jewellery's history and cultural reference, how to get from an idea to a finished product and then pricing and marketing that product.

Overall, it was an engaging read and something that I will happily refer back to when in need of inspiation.
