Week of Productivity

A late welcome to 2013! I started this year as I mean to go on.

On holiday.

It's not been a relaxing break though. I've organised my "Craft Corner" so it's actually all contained in the corner of my room, not taking over the house. It was a pretty mammoth task but everything now has a home which will make my life a bit easier. All of my beads are now organised into colours and just having a good look at them has helped generate some ideas. I've found things I forgot I ever bought. One of the best things to come out of this was finding and sorting all my half done projects, some of which I have actually finished!

I have ended up with a massive pile of jewellery ready to (hopefully) sell. This weekend was spent with my friend Tom who has photographed all of my creations. My iPad photography doesn't really do anything justice as you can tell by the photo's on this blog! You can find some of his awesome photographs here on his Facebook page. There's a few more things on my to-do list that need crossing off and then I will be gracing Etsy with my presence once more!

When I am making things, I don't always stick to the same materials. Some days I love beads, some days I want to make things out of silver, depending on my mood and inspirations. A few years ago I wanted to play with felt. I cut up loads of circles and started to embroider and bead them with the aim of making them into a necklace. I did two. I got bored.

But it's done. The original circles are there, the flower is made out of a larger circle cut into a spiral and then shaped, and all backed and hung with a ribbon.

The next project came after spending too long on Pinterest. I have seen so many jewellery pieces made from washers and nuts and they made me think about a project I started about the same time as the felt. I'd bought an old sewing box which had allsorts in, I didn't know what a lot of it was. There was a bag of clear plastic rings, my research tells me they are for making Roman blinds... I have no interest in doing that... So I started wrapping them with embroidery thread to make them pretty. It kept me amused on my train journeys to Darlington (I go for a piano lesson every week) and I got loads done.

I didn't know what to do with them so the pretty rings were forgotton about. I found them during the crafty spring clean and with my Pinterest inspiration made them into this necklace. Check out this site that I used for the method.

I bought a massive box of buttons in a closing down sale and I have finally used some of them! I chose my favourite purple tube and gave myself the mammoth task of putting jump rings on them all (my hands hurt so much afterwards!) then I made two necklaces, a bracelet and 3 pairs of earrings... Not bad for a days work! The picture is of my absolute favourite, I'm trying to make it work with every outfit at the moment.

Just got to sort out the rest of them...
